Outfit Ideas for the Mother of the Bride

Every bride wants to look incredible on their wedding day, but they're not the only one hoping to look gorgeous on the big day. Others, from the bridesmaids to the ordinary guests, wouldn't mind looking pretty spiffy too. For the mother of the bride, it's a significant day too, because she's watching her daughter start her married life. She needs to look good too, even if she doesn't have to look quite as fancy as the bride. It's not always easy to choose a beautiful outfit as an older woman. You don't want to dress too young or too old or pick something that doesn't match the dress code for the day. If you're stuck for ideas, try using some of these.

Keep It Simple

If you look at a lot of formal dresses intended for older women, they can be very fussy. There are often lots of beads, feathers, folds and taffeta. Presumably, the intention is to flatter all the bits you might not be so confident about. But for a lot of women, these details draw a bit too much attention to them. You don't want everyone to be looking at you over the bride because your outfit stands out so much. For a different idea, you could try going for something more simple. Avoid any of the frills and fussy details, and instead, go for a something long and flowing. Go for simple but sophisticated, not dazzling and sparkly.

Dress Alternatives

Not every woman wants to wear a dress to all formal occasions. There are other options if you wish to consider something else. Some of the best mother of the bride plus size outfits can be more flattering if they're suits or two-piece outfits instead. You could wear a skirt and top, instead of a dress, which can feel more comfortable as well as be looking great. If you don't want to wear a dress at all, switch it out for some trousers instead. A smart suit can be an attractive option, although you don't have to wear a jacket. You could choose a cardigan to keep you warm instead, or a soft shawl.

Be Inspired by the Wedding

The wedding itself can give you inspiration for what to wear. For starters, you don't want to dress incredibly formally if it's a bit laid-back. The bride will probably give you some hints about what to wear and what the venue will be like. You can let these things inspire you to pick an appropriate outfit. For example, you might tie your outfit into the wedding colours or go along with the theme.

Stylish But Comfortable Shoes

Don't forget to pick some beautiful shoes to go along with your outfit. Of course, you don't want to be uncomfortable all day, though. Don't suffer through wearing six-inch heels just because they look good. Find a pair that goes with your outfit, look stylish and feel comfortable. That's easier said than done, but you should be able to find something you love.

Choosing a mother of the bride outfit can be a great chance to bond with your daughter. Go shopping with her or show her your choices to discuss it together.

Life Update || Car Crash... Literally

At the end of September hubster and I decided to go out for a meal for our anniversary, booking a day off from work, getting dressed up and heading out we were totally thrilled to be celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary - 11 years and 3 kids later, it's definitely something. After our lunch, we were heading back when...... Boom!

We were in a car crash!

Totally unexpected, but the long and short of it was a car two in front had stopped dead on the road. The car in front stopped suddenly and BAM, we went flying into the car in front like a domino effect. Our car had completely crumpled at the front and of course, no one was seriously injured but because I didn't expect it I ended up with whiplash, shock, a very tender and sore body. Hubster, he was fine, he expected the crash so had braced for it whereas I didn't as I was looking at him. Who knew it affected you full force days later? Apparently, it's going to take six months plus to get the full range of movement and pain reduction.

After the crash and once the shock physically wore off we found ourselves with another worry, how the hell would we going to get to work and would this mean one of us would lose our job? The insurers wanted to write off our car but based on current market prices there's no way we were getting much for our Ford Focus Zetec, our father-in-law advised us to try to source the parts which would stop us from having to go through the insurance. It seemed the best and most plausible way to resolve the issue.

At this point I started dreaming [and wishing badly] that I had enough to purchase a new car. Having the money to just buy a new, family friendly car would have been amazing but, we didn't so I was stuck stressing and dreaming.

Had you asked me which car I would have purchased seven, eight or nine years back I would have absolutely gone for a car such as the BMW Z4 Roadster. The sleek design and the air in my hair. These days I would opt for a family car such as the BMW 318i SE Saloon and you know, I don't even hate the navy colour either. It's a beauty, isn't it.

The hardest part in all of this situation other than the pain, of course, was finding all of the parts to rebuild our car (a complete front end, parts from the inside basically and bumper). We found actually that some parts were would have been cheaper to purchase and have shipped from abroad via quick couriers. One of those websites was called Reserve Deler, if you find yourself in a similar situation their details are on the website - ReserveDeler24.co.no

We did purchase a couple of parts abroad and luckily - very luckily we managed to get some from a scrap yard but, we were told we were very lucky as there's normally a long-line waiting to get in each day to snap up the good parts for reselling.

Looking back I'd have absolutely just purchased all new parts and had them shipped. What I am glad about though is that our sons were at school and were completely safe. Now that is luck!

Have any of you ever been in a car crash? (I'm hoping not).

How to Ensure You Look Gorgeous At Your Wedding

My wedding - 2004

Every bride wants to look an absolute knockout on her wedding day. There are going to be hundreds of pictures of the event and lots of people who will expect to see the happy couple looking their best. You can’t just wake up on the day and hope for the best, though. You have to start prepping in advance to make sure you look gorgeous. Let’s take a look at what you should do:

Start Eating Right

As far in advance as you can start eating right. Cut down on the junk you eat and begin to fill your diet with healthier options. Track what you eat if you find this easier! You want to make sure you’re getting a good balance of carbs, protein, and fats. Processed food should be limited as much as possible, but you can allow yourself very small treats here and there to keep yourself on track. Don’t just think about your body and how amazing you’ll look in your dress, but your health, energy levels and the condition of your skin/hair/nails too!

Get Some Exercise

Yep, that dreaded word; exercise. If you want to look gorgeous on your wedding day, you should try to get some form of exercise at least 3 times a week. Just make sure you schedule some last-minute dress fittings just in case you lose more inches! You could even just do a little power walking if that’s what you like. Not only will you slim down, you’ll feel amazing. Your skin and everything can benefit from regular exercise. You’ll also feel especially amazing if you plan to wed on a beach in a hot country!

Choose a Dress That Flatters You

Make sure you leave enough time to pick an amazing dress that flatters you and your figure. This is one of my main regrets because I had to find a second dress two weeks before our big day due to weight loss, and, the dress I chose in a rush was so far away from my style, was too big in the hips (too much beading to adjust it) and I hated it. My husband loved it though so it didn't stop the day from being amazing. Make sure you know your body shape and what is most flattering to it, as well as what your own personal style is. What looks good on others may not make you feel confident, especially if it's so different from your own typical style. Picking a dress that suits you and your personality while boosting your confidence will make a huge impact on you as well as all of your guests and especially your husband to be!

Make Sure You Accessorise

Accessorising is the key to nailing your wedding look. You can choose from a variety of things; bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces. It all depends on how you plan to have your hair and the style of your dress, so make sure you balance out your look. You can find wedding hair accessories of all styles too, even if you don’t want a veil or tiara. There’s something perfect for everyone!

Treat Yourself to a Pamper

This is your big day, so don’t be afraid to treat yourself to a little pamper. Have your nails and hair done. and what about having your teeth whitened and eyelashes tinted? Make sure you feel great about yourself! Just make sure you book well in advance and choose a salon you trust. You can’t risk anything going wrong this close to the big day!

Practice Hair and Makeup Beforehand

If you intend on doing your own hair and makeup, you can’t get enough practice beforehand. You can play with different looks this way and know what you like best.

Have a wonderful wedding day!

Celiac Approved Ilumi Snack Pots || Now Also Available in ASDA's.

Ilumi have pulled it out of the bag with their latest noodle launch guys and I mean that with full gusto. I've previously discussed my love with this brand, as a diagnosed celiac I get easily excited about celiac approved products that are a) homemade tasting b) nutritious c) fill me up d) affordable and the big one e) don't taste like cardboard. Ilumi in my opinion ticks every box.

I've tried most of their meals since their inception and there have maybe only been two or three I wasn't hugely fussed over but on the same note there were ones that I would eat every day until the day I died - I'm looking at your Pea and Ham Soup and Kerala Chicken Curry.

One of the problems I've had over the last year has been work. More so lunchtimes or any breaks. In my current role my colleagues usually have their breakfast, some have rolls on a Friday and of course, there's daily lunch. I like to be organised with my work meals because I suffered from daily nausea and there's no way I could forgo eating or I'd be spending my day hugging the China bowl. And, I also love eating so there's that also. Yes, there is celiac approved bread which I do use sparingly and when there's nothing else because it tends to be flimsy and fall apart easily - not very appetising is it? I used to wish there was something 'snackable' something I could make at work quickly and eat while I worked. I ashamedly did try eating something non-celiac and had to double dose on my prescription antihistamines - it wasn't worth it at all. Neither was it worth it snacking down on junk and sweet treats - ask my hips they'll tell you why.

You can imagine my daily dilemma. That is until Ilumi announced their Rice Noodle Snack Pots.

The pot contains a ball of dried noodles and a sachet of powder flavouring. You simply add the sachet of flavour to the noodles and fill the cup up to the line with boiling water very much in the same way as a Pot Noodle. The noodles become edible within minutes and unlike Pot Noodles they're lush. These noodles are silky and very much true to what a noodle should be like. They taste like homemade noodles!

The sauce and flavouring again tastes homemade rather than plastic-like. After eating these, I was left full and satisfied and there was no horrible after taste, side effects or nausea (like I get with many foods).

I've tried all of the available four flavours which are:

* Sweet Chilli Snack Pot // Classic sweet chilli sauce flavour with mild heat with spring onion and red pepper veggies.
* Tom Yum Snack Pot // Chili, coriander and ginger flavoured broth with red pepper, mushroom and leek veggies.
* Vietnamese Beef Pho Snack Pot // Delicate spicy beef stock with coriander, mushroom, leek and red pepper.
* Singapore Snack Pot // Singapore-style curry sauce with spring onion, carrot, red onion and peas.

You can eat these also until your hearts content because they're low in calories and fat. The calorie content for each is - 259 calories (sweet chilli), 247 calories (Tom-yum), 251 calories (Vietnamese Beef Pho), 249 calories (Singapore).  Awesome huh! These would make excellent additions to any healthy eating, weight loss or insulin resistant diets you may have going on and I do feel that these snacks and my new insulin resistance PCOS medication has been what's led me to lose ten pounds in little over a week.

And more good news.... They're available in ASDA's. The snack pots and the meals are available which makes my meal planning so much easier. Hubster came home last week grinning from ear-to-ear and wanting to show me what he'd bought me and you guessed it, he'd picked up some snack pots and some Kerala Chicken. He's a good egg that man. Onwards and upwards Ilumi! I'm hoping they're going to bring out some prawn flavours or some spaghetti bolognese flavour or some chicken stroganoff *drools*

Which flavour are you going to pick up first? The snack pots cost £1.99 on the website and £1.75 in ASDA's (online they're a larger pack weight hence the price difference). I can assure you that if you were to simply live off these (3 per day) you wouldn't go hungry.

How To Improve Your Health Regime Without Even Leaving The Home

Ahh, home sweet home. It’s the foundation of a happy life and we all strive to create a comfortable environment to grow. However, leaving a healthy lifestyle is an equally important role to our overall happiness. So why not combine the two?

Considering the amount of time you spend at home, it would be foolish not to use it as a key ingredient of your healthy living habits. It might feel like a daunting prospect, but it only takes a few simple decisions to ensure that you get the results you want.

Here are my top tips to ensure that your home is the perfect venue to accommodate your need for a healthy life.

Eat Well

Good diet is the core or any healthy living plan. It’s an aspect that no health enthusiast can overlook. Moreover, the fact you often eat at home makes it the perfect place to start when turning your property into a health haven.

These daily healthy eating tips can be incorporated to provide the perfect platform to build your overall diet. Meanwhile, you should make it your responsibility to learn more about nutrition. Quite often, the reason we make bad choices is that we don’t even know.

Avoiding processed foods should be one of your main goals. Invest in a slow cooker and you’ll soon notice a vast improvement to your diet.

Sleep Well

It’s easy to concern yourself solely with changes throughout the working day. However, one of the biggest changes you can make it to improve your sleep patterns. Not only will this upgrade improve your inner health, but it will make vast changes to your external appearance too.

Your bed is arguably the most important piece of furniture in your life. After all, you should be spending eight hours per night tucked up and snoozing. Switching to a latex mattress could be one of the most significant changes you ever make. If it’s going to improve the quality of your sleep, it has to be an investment worth making.

Far too many people overlook the importance of sleep, but it’s a crucial factor to your health and overall well-being. If you’ve been suffering a lack of energy or motivation, making this upgrade is a must.

Work Out

Regular exercise isn’t optional. It’s a basic necessity of human life, and you cannot afford to miss out. We can all use the speed of modern life as an excuse, but there’s nothing more important than your health.

I sympathise with the fact that paying extortionate fees to workout in an environment you hate isn’t appealing. However, investing in a few home gym facilities removes the travel, other people, and monthly fees. Alternatively, you could buy a fitness DVD and follow those workouts for a more fulfilling experience.

Either way, working out at home will help the property support your healthy living. Moreover, the time you save will allow you to enjoy more of it with the family. Now that has to sound better for everyone.

Benefit Cosmetics || Limited Edition Swarovski They're Real Mascara

Limited edition They're Real Mascara.

Limited Edition.

They're Real Mascara....

If this post ended right now those five words above are enough to described how utterly amazing this is. They're Real is the mascara to beat all mascara's so when Benefit Cosmetics launch a new variation, hells I'm all over it!

This time, they've kept the formula the same (phew) but glitzyfied it up to the hilt with some genuine Swarovski's and a matte black packaging. I don't know about you, but packaging plays a huge part in whether I buy something or not, I know it's terrible, but it's true.

This mascara also is the only one that makes a noticeable difference on my short and thin spider leg lashes I can't help but be excited about this launch. Enough said really.

It's available over on Benefit Cosmetics here just now *wink*

Pampering Ideas For Hardworking Women

Working mothers. Stay-at-home mothers. Single ladies. Retired ladies. Whatever your situation, all ladies deserve some 'me' time once in awhile. There are lots of different ways to be self-indulgent for the day. Whether relaxing alone or with friends, treat yourself now! Here are some ideas to get your inspirational cogs turning...

Spas

Spas are the essence of relaxation. Tranquil surroundings. Soothing music piped into treatment rooms. Saunas, swimming pools and steam rooms. Spas are the quintessential pampering experience. Spas commonly offer visitors a choice of pamper packages. Whether you want a full body massage, head and shoulder massage, manicure, pedicure, or facial. There is plenty to choose from so you can pick the package that meets your relaxation needs.

Afternoon Tea

A timeless tradition, afternoon tea is an elegant pastime enjoyed by ladies for years. Afternoon tea was once a pursuit reserved for the wealthy. Today, it is enjoyed by all. It consists of a range of finger sandwiches, scones, and a selection of delicate pastries. A choice of tea or coffee is a fine accompaniment. Many afternoon teas include a glass of champagne too for that extra special indulgence.

Hair Salons

Arranging to have your haircut is a necessity. But having a professional hair stylist style your hair is an indulgence. Book a top class salon and treat yourself to a professional up-do. Coincide it with an evening function so you can parade yourself with confidence! Flick through a glossy magazine while sipping a glass of something chilled. Enjoy being looked after and allow the professionals to make you shine.

Nail Salons

Nail varnish application is a skill. Although most of us try it at home, our rudimentary efforts are no match for the professionals! A French manicure, gel nails or buff and polish are amongst the many options to try. An afternoon at the nail salon is a fine way to reward those hardworking hands. Be adventurous with new nail techniques. Opt for bold colours you wouldn't normally wear. Create a perfect ten with fingers to make your friends jealous!

Overnight Stay

A true treat for a woman with responsibilities is an overnight stay in a hotel. A bed you don't have to make. A bathroom you don't have to clean. And a chance to channel hop while consuming the complimentary biscuits! Treat yourself to a top City hotel and enjoy a night of pure indulgence. Seek out the best London stay, New York hotel or Parisian boutique. Book your choice and start packing that overnight bag.

Retail Therapy

Women love to shop. That's the general view anyhow. So what greater way to indulge than to treat yourself to a new wardrobe? Hit the High Streets for bargain buys. Or indulge in a spot of boutique hunting for that dream designer dress. Pick out matching accessories to complement your new outfit.

For an extra treat, book a session with a personal shopper. Many stores operate this service. It's a great way to seek a professional's advice on the styles and colours that suit you best. Go on, treat yourself! You deserve to be spoilt. So which option fits your idea of pure indulgence?

My Story || How To Quit Smoking For Good

I started smoking at the age of sixteen - I'm talking smoking full time, in front of my parents and spending my well-earned money on cigarettes. Over the years, I've smoked more cigarettes than I care to admit and when I turned twenty I was smoking more than I ever had done. I decided to try and cut down - but it was hard. I soon fell pregnant in 2005 and  smoking was no longer an option in my life. During my pregnancy, I was sick as a dog until around the ninth month so craving cigarettes was the last thing on my mind. Not long after my son was born though I ashamedly started smoking again.

Weirdly I missed holding a cigarette more than I missed the actual inhalation of toxins. Between 2006 and 2009 I fell pregnant two more times and each time was similar, I'd fall pregnant, stop smoking and restart shortly after my sons were born. In 2009 when I restarted it was different from the previous times. I started smoking again, sure, but this time there was a real hate for the dirty habit. I smoked because I struggled to fight the craving - but - at the same time I despised the habit and each cigarette that I smoked. I felt torn and weak and ashamed. I so badly wanted to stop.

Seeking help, I found the only methods available for stopping smoking in 2009 were Nicotine patches, consultations at a chemist and a prescription medication called Champix (Varenicline). I decided to try the Nicotine patches first because they were the less invasive method, but I couldn't stomach the patches no matter how hard I tried as they made me violently sick. Visiting the doctors I was prescribed Champix. I had heard both good and bad stories about this medication, but I was willing to give it a try.

Champix was my only hope to stop smoking so I wholeheartedly agreed to give them a try. Once again by the second week (when the tablets increased) I was throwing up continuously and the migraine that had taken root in my head literally made me feel like I was about to die. I soon realised that my only way of giving up for good was to go cold turkey. That prospect terrified me.

Six years on I'm so impressed with how far we've come with products and treatments to help people kick their own smoking habit. If I was quitting now, I think I would have gone down the vaping and e-cigarette route which has become hugely popular for good reason. I have a few close family members who stopped smoking using e-cigarettes and in particular the e-liquid from Medusa Juice. My cousin loves the Medusa Juice, Banana custard flavoured e-liquid in particular. Its enabled her to cut her smoking habit in half without the horrible side effects that come from patches and prescriptions. She's hoping to fully stop within the next month or two. This is the e-juice that she uses...

Had vaping been around back when I was a ''smoker''  I doubt I'd have ever re-started and going cold turkey would have never been an issue.  I still think back to when my habit was in full force and I still feel guilty for smoking when my sons were so young, granted I smoked outside, but I would have still had cigarette smoke, nicotine and other toxins on my skin and clothes as I picked them up and smothered them in kisses. Those memories don't sit right with me because it should have never happened. Vaping provides an easy and manageable way of reclaiming your health and breaking the habit once and for all and because of that I wholeheartedly recommend this as the easiest and most viable option for quitting safely.

Festive Gift Guide || 4 Christmas Skincare Launches Heading Your Way

The big ''C'' is nearing closer and closer and as hard as it is to hear it, you're going to have to start preparing for the festive season soon if you want to get a head. More and more families are starting to shop earlier, organise earlier and save earlier - because of this things pretty much sell out by the beginning of November leaving the actual festive season stressful if there are specific things you're hoping to buy.

To get your inspiration flowing these four products have either just launched - or - are due to launch soon. Get a step ahead of others by making your must buy list now and snagging what you can as it launches...
I Love.... Christmas collection

Prices vary from £2 to £30 and Superdrug currently have a sale on so some of these gift sets which they've priced with up to 50% off. These make great options for those trying to reduce their Christmas spending.

I absolutely adore Aromatherapy Associates which is why they're making it onto this list. They're so simplistic but luxurious and an absolute dream to use. You know when you see movies and the ladies are always in deep bliss because they're been pampered, so you try to have a pamper day at home and it's never that good...it's because you're not using AA.

The start of the month saw the launch of their Clear Mind Bath & Shower Oil. This was a collaboration with Liberty. This particular design is, of course, limited which makes it all-the-more covetable.
The bath & shower oil is formulated with palmarosa, bergamot, frankincense and chamomile essential oils which alone are super beneficial to our whole bodies, here's why...

Palmarosa | Helps you to 'cool' down, kills bad bacteria, aids digestion & promotes healthy cell renewal.
Bergamot | Did you know that it's the addition of bergamot in tea that takes it from being just 'tea' to making it 'Earl Gray', it's a natural antibiotic, naturally lifts depressive moods, relaxant, helps to reduce scars and scar tissue, reduces fever & improves skin issues.
