Eco Friendly || Easy Bathroom Habits That Can Save The Earth

There are plenty of ways to save the planet, but the best way is to start at home. When you take the necessary measures at home, going green becomes a lot easier in everyday life. So, it makes sense if, like me, you are an eco-warrior! And, the only place to start is the bathroom. In fact, you are probably helping save the planet with your bathroom habits without even realising. Just take a look at the list below and see how many you can check off.

Not Washing Your Hands

Not everyone washes their hands after a number one. Or is that just me? Regardless, not washing your hands after you have been to the bathroom is a great way to save water. If you turn on the tap at every opportunity, you can waste litres of water. Ask yourself, do you need to wash every time you go to the toilet? Because if you do, you are just wasting water that could be better used elsewhere. If you are already a non-washer, keep up the good work!

Peeing In The Shower

Gross, right? For some people, peeing in the shower is disgusting. For others, it is a normal occurrence. What we can all agree on, however, is that it again saves water. Just because it is a little bit nasty doesn’t mean that it isn’t necessary. If you have to go and the shower is running, why not jump in and answer nature’s call? You can easily kill two birds with one stone.

Only Flush When Necessary

Flushing is not necessary all the time. Okay, it might be a little bit disgusting if you are a regular flusher. But, once you get used to it, you will save yourself a fortune on water bills. Plus, in the process, you will help the earth. Some people out there (men!) might even be doing this already. You might only think that this tip could be found in a funny post about bathroom habits. In reality, it is a deadly serious technique.

Reuse Bath Water

When someone has a bath, jump in afterwards. Dirty bathwater is the least of your troubles, especially when the water bill hits. Everyone who lives in the house is comfortable enough to reuse water after they have been in the bath. So, instead of letting it drain and jumping in the shower, don’t be afraid to follow in the last person’s footsteps. After all, you are all friends and recycling is important, whatever shape it takes.

Turn Off The Tap

While you are in the bathroom, you waste a lot of water without even realising. A few simple measures and you can stop this at the source, and it all revolves around turning off the tap. When you brush your teeth, when you wash your hands, or while you are shaving the water is constantly running. Well, it doesn’t have to be running because you can turn it on and off with the flick of a knob. It is a tap, after all! Instead of how much easier it makes your life, think about how much better it is for the planet.

In the grand scheme of things, creating new bathroom habits is just as important as your existing habits.

Here's How I Make Sure My Family Stays Healthy

As a parent my families well being, and safety always has been my main concern and priority. It is so important to put your kids on the right path from day one. I have learned there are a few simple ways you can do this. I am not talking about complex psychological theories or the never-ending nature versus nurture debate. These are just the steps I have taken to ensure my children have the best chance to be physically healthy. 

Regular Exercise

This is easily one of the most important things you can do to ensure your child's well being. Particularly, if like me, you live in Scotland where child obesity is at an all-time high. Not all children like the idea of exercise so you should try and make it fun for them. Younger children usually love doing sports with their parents. Older children are more likely to lean towards doing an exercise with their school or their friends. Especially, if you can find an activity that they excel at.

Checkups At The Doctors

Your children should regularly be getting a check up at the doctors, at least once per year. Not all medical conditions have symptoms that can be seen. That is why it is important that your children regularly see a medical professional. If there is a problem, it is far better to know as early as possible. You should also take them to an optician quite often and have their eyesight tested. Young children in particular commonly do not notice their eyesight is bad and cannot tell you for themselves. This can lead to difficulties at school. 

Buying Meds 

Recently, I have heard that parents have stopped buying medication for their children when they have the flu or a virus. They believe that by buying antibiotics for every illness they are adding to the antibiotic pandemic. Or, they are simply trying to save money by paying for less. Personally, I would never do this when it came to my children's health. I always make sure they have the prescriptions they need. Also, you can easily make the cost cheaper with a prescription discount certificate in the UK or prescription discount card in the US. 

Limiting TV Time 

This is to do with ensuring your child stays in good shape. You want to start this at an early age rather than introducing it later in development. I do not allow my children to spend more than three hours a day in front of the screen. TV in excess has been proven to be bad for a child's eyes, their attention span, and their health. Taking this into account you should try find another activity to keep them entertained. 

Home Cooked Foods

As your children get older, they will encounter new things from different sources. This includes the type of food they eat. You cannot control what your children eat forever. Eventually, they are going to make their choice and possibly gorge themselves on junk like McDonalds or KFC. But you can always make sure they have the option of a good, home-cooked meal. That is the last thing I will continue to try and do to keep my kids healthy.

I love beautiful colour palettes, curated art and inspiring lifestyle pieces - that's why I am genuinely addicted to Pinterest. My second addiction has to be Instagram, more so for viewing other accounts rather than posting.

As you move through her uploads you get a sense of her personality and although each image looks very simplistic you can automatically tell these must have taken a fair bit of creative thought to plan and execute. Briar Rose Blog || I love Briar Rose's blog but never considered taking a peek at her Instagram. Now that I have I'm absolutely hooked and it's one of a few accounts I'll head to Instagram regularly to eye-up. It's filled with Disney, femininity and cuteness in bucket loads and everytime I pop over there my wishlist grows and grows.

Leif Shop || A gorgeous account of purchasable goods, bohemian lifestyle images and artsy pics. This account feels like an extension of my own personality. It's inspiring, clean and unobtrusive. You're gonna love it.

Nectar and Stone || The prettiest foods you'll ever see! Chocolates, meringues, waffles, macarons and more all delivered in amazingly beautiful colour palettes that are feminine but grown up - after all gold leaf on anything is so covetable isn't it and pink chocolate bars with popcorn - sign me up!
