3 Online games you should give a go!

Hi Everyone, my name's Connor and this is my first post on the blog under the "Geekery" category. In this post, I will be listing some games, along with a brief-ish run through of some of the games that  I have played over the years that, I feel are worth mention for their innovative contribution towards the genre.

The internet can be a scary place if you have been living under a rock for the past 20 odd years, and are unfamiliar with its nuances. Other than being a wealth of information or a place to purchase some brand new Converse shoes, the internet can also be used to enjoy online games. This is one way that any introvert, parent or simply someone who's too busy for real world socialising can have some down time and connect with some weird, wonderful but interesting people across the world.

Here's a list of the top 3 games I would recommend that you try!

First released in 1997, Tibia, is amongst one of the first and oldest MMORPG's (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game) which was developed by a German company called CipSoft.

Tibia slowly gained popularity in the role-playing game genre and at its peak boasted 64028 players online at one time across 30 or so game "worlds" - the world count has since expanded to 77 (Each with the potential capacity of 1000 players), with 2 extra worlds for testing purposes.

Gameplay involves the progression of "levels" (Your characters rank within the game) along with the advancement of skills by the killing of monsters, using magic, weapons or even your fists - a la Bruce Lee. Four player "Vocations" exist in the game which you will get to chose after a shortish tutorial. They include; The Knight, expert at melee fighting and limited magic ability; The Paladin, Tibia's archer class who is adept at distance fighting and moderate magic capabilities; The Druid, proficient in defensive and healing magic spells; The Sorcerer, offensive style magic is his or her forté. Each of them has their pros/cons and unique set of attributes, however, once you pick one you will not be able to change it later on.

Interactions with other players can be achieved through the in-game chat system which features several different dedicated channels for general chat, making trades and private messaging to name a few. Chat isn't the limitation to your interactions, however. oh no - I will expand on that below.

You will have to be on the look out for other players who want to attack, kill and steal your hard earned loot! A system is in place to prevent the excessive murder of players through the marking of their in-game avatar with a small skull, brandishing them as no good murderers or bandits and informing others that they are just that. You can also join a guild where you can meet new people and in turn gain some protection from would-be killers.

Worlds are split into 3 different categories, each of which caters to different game styles and preferences. Like classes, worlds can't be changed once you have selected one unless you purchase an in-game token to transfer your character. The worlds are:

🚩 Optional PvP | Combat with other players is not permitted unless all parties agree to it.
🚩 Open PvP | Combat with other players is permitted however, the skulling system is present.
🚩 Hardcore PvP | Fully encouraged, dog eat dog style game-play where you will be rewarded for murder!

The base game is free to play however, optional membership packages are available which grant access to new lands, spells, and promotions. You should check out the official trailer below for some cool in-game footage. I really like the isometric game style as, being a pixel artist, it really encapsulates the potential usage of 32 by 32 graphics.

Arguably one of the best-known MMORPG's out there, Runescape has expanded and changed hugely over the past 16 years since it's release in 2001. Like Tibia, Runescape features a leveling and skilling system to advance your character, however, the Runescape system is more developed as many intricacies exist within said systems. For example, both games feature a fishing skill but only Runescape gives you any real benefits past obtaining fish and a fraction of experience points towards your next level, the more you progress the array of fish you can catch increases, opening more opportunity to yourself down the line. Gaining experience in one of the 27 skills available is done by, surprise surprise, performing tasks relating to that skills. For example, hitting a monster with a bow will give you experience in the Ranged skills, whereas hitting a rock with a pickaxe will gain you experience in the Mining skill.

Runescape does not feature a class system and you are free to do as you wish once you create your character. If you want to play as a warrior one day and then an archer the next, you can do so without any restrictions.

Chatting with other players is done through the real time, in-game chat box, which has a channel system, not unlike Tibia's and via the Friends/Private chat interfaces.

Areas exist in the game world where players can come together and fight one another, the Wilderness is one of these areas and it's notoriety to even non-Runescape players is legendary. Split into 56 levels, 8 of which are accessible only to players with a membership, only players within a specific range of your overall level can attack you. The range is calculated by taking your level and adding or subtracting the Wilderness level you are currently standing in, this means at level 1 Wilderness 2 players of level 50 and 49 will be able to initiate combat. Aside from player versus player combat, the Wilderness can be used for high-risk skill training - which is often Wilderness exclusive meaning some resources farmed there may not be obtainable anywhere else, these are usually high-risk high reward situations.

Membership options are available to you which open a whole new side to the game, where new skills can be mastered, new lands can be explored and new mini-games such as the player-owned port can be accessed, unlocking a plethora of rewards and achievements.

The development team on Runescape are top notch, and updates are rolled out frequently which are often accompanied with a video on their social media websites explaining any changes they have made to the game. I have personally played this game on and off since 2002, and have seen many of the changes over the years - some of them were good and some of them not so much, but the main thing is, I have found at least, is Jagex listen to their player base and take all of their feedback seriously.

Below is the official trailer for the game which shows some of the heroes you will encounter in-game. I particularly like the art style and the animation featured in it.

Heroes and Generals

I absolutely love first person shooters and this game is an excellent World War 2 team based, capture the position style game, where teamwork is definitely paramount when it comes to accomplishing the objective.

The game is split into two - The first person part where you will create a soldier within 1 of the 3 available factions ( United States, Germany, and the Soviet Union ) and progress up the ranks, which is a slow and tedious journey, until you reach the first officer class then you will have the opportunity to try the real-time strategy portion which makes up the second part of the game. This is where you will control units and move them towards objectives such as airfields, factories, cities and other strategic points. When assault teams attack one another on the map, a mission is created and players from each faction can join in on that mission. Officers can also provide an on-going battle with reinforcements supplying the teams with more resources.

Starting out, you will only have access to the Infantry class where you will be a level 1 or Private ranked soldier. You will earn a salary per hour based on your rank and as you progress you will unlock higher salaries, opportunities to move to another branch of the army, such as the Recon, Tank and Pilot branches and better weaponry.

The chat system is very limited and does not feature mic support as of yet. Hopefully, in coming updates, they will implement a better platform for communications with squad mates and in turn, eliminate the need for the usage of 3rd party programs such as TeamSpeak.

Heroes and Generals is free to play, but as with the other games listed above, it features premium packages that include the purchasing of better classes and guns. Some people argue that this makes the game too easy and brings in a pay to win aspect, which is neither fun nor fair.

I've spent countless hours on the game usually over the weekends and I absolutely love it! The development team are awesome, and their updates are frequent often bringing loads of great and surprising new features to the game.

The game can be downloaded through Steam and run through the Steam client or played via the browser client on the official website. The official game trailer can be viewed below.

Well, that concludes my short list of games you should check out. What games have you tried from the list? and which games would you recommend others to try?

Please let me know in the comments below if you have any suggestions!

Who Said Lingerie Had To Stay In The Bedroom? Not The Fashion World!

As the season's change, attention is to the fashion world. This year, an unexpected trend is becoming clear. Lingerie was once for bedtime and dirty weekends. But, it seems this is the season for replacing your partywear with these lacy numbers. Thanks to catwalk shows from Givenchy, and other top designers, the fashion world is flying the lingerie flag. Okay, so there’s a risk of looking like you just stumbled out of bed. But, if you get this trend right, you’re sure to turn heads. If you’ve never thought about taking your lingerie on a day trip before, it’s time to do a little research. That’s why we’ve got everything you ever wanted to know about keeping lingerie sexy during the daytime!

Like with any new look, get your head around the do's and don'ts of daytime nightwear. The first thing to consider is which women's lingerie pieces will work in the real world. Let’s be serious here. Catwalk models may be able to flash their boobs in the name of art, you can’t do the same on the street. Not without risk of arrest and strange looks, anyway. You need to pick pieces that offer you modesty. Think class, here. It might be best to buy some new pieces, just for the occasion. Wearing your actual nightwear isn’t the way forward! Instead, look out for red carpet worthy pieces. You want to stay sexy, without exposing yourself! Slinky black dresses and lace trim tops are sure to be a hit. You want to buy pieces that don’t look like you wore them to bed the night before!

What better inspiration for a new fashion trend than the pros? Gain ideas about how to make the look work by looking to the people who started the trend. This shoot by Benjamin Barron should give you some idea about how to get the look right. Look, too, at the catwalk shows that started the trend in the first place! Get a feel for how designers have paired lingerie with other items to make them work as outfits. Do remember, though, that not everything you see on the catwalk is going to work in real life. Remember what we said about flashing boobs in the name of art? Don’t do that! Even so, this research will give you ideas. If you’re struggling to find your sexy side, take note from models like Josephine Skriver. As Victoria’s Secret’s new model, she’s flying the lingerie trend high, and looking fabulous for it! She’s ‘living the dream’ in her new position, and you could be living the dream with your new look, too!

Get the Accessories Right

We all know that it’s accessories that make an outfit. Your new lingerie style is no different. In fact, it’s even more important you accessorize right with this new look. The additions are what will take it from night to day! First, think about what shoes to wear. You can’t very well wear your bunny slippers out of the house. These rose satin sneakers are a fantastic example of how to get footwear right. Look out for footwear made of similar materials to your outfit. Think too, of incorporating lace! Speaking of lace, the best way to highlight those lingerie trims is, of course, jewelry. Buy subtle pieces, to match your subtle outfit. Lingerie is sensual. Wearing bracelets and necklaces will draw attention to the sensual parts of your body. Be careful not to overdo this, though. Pick one piece of jewelry and stick with it. Then we come to bags. As you did with your shoes, buy bags of similar materials to your main piece. Think satin and lace. As lingerie is all about subtlety, go for clutch bags instead of full-size pieces.

Bed Head

Of course, you’ll want to incorporate your hairstyle into your new look. Like accessories, this is the perfect way to finish your outfit. The trick is to achieve that bedhead look without your hair being a mess! A bed head is a surprisingly hard look to get right, so it’s worth practicing before you go out in public. Again, you can turn to the world of celebrity for your inspiration. Stock up on products and try to achieve a look like your favorite famous faces. Backcombing and hairspray should help you make the image you want. Make sure to take that hairspray with you so you can top up when you need to!

Valentine's Day | A Day For The Ladies

In ancient times the celebration that we know as Valentine's Day had a completely different meaning and name. It was called ''Lupercalia'' and at the time it celebrated the goddess Lupa who breastfed twins, Romulus and Remus during the Ides of February (February 13th to 15th).

This day also celebrated the goddess Juno Februata (which is where 'February' comes from) who afflicted females of childbearing age with a love fever. After feasting on the meat of recently killed animals, the ladies of that time would whip young fertile men regardless of whether they were or weren't willing. It was at this point that the ladies were seen to be taking on their own inner she-wolf behaviours just like Lupa did. See at that time, the ladies believed that whipping the young men, killing and eating animals and being completely nude and indulgent in sexual excesses would make them fertile just like Lupa was in order to breastfeed Remus and Romulus.

These days were oversaturated with love hearts, soft squishy teddy bears and chubby cherubs through mass-marketing. But, the true origin was not as a sweet and romantic as it is these days - Although I'm betting many partners were wishing their ladies get in touch with their inner she-wolf more...

Sex and relationships have always been central to the original celebration, some believe it should be dulled down to more of a romance and love based holiday but I question that because isn't sex, lust and passion in a relationship just as equally important as the typical love and romance. Don't we generally do the whole love and romance thing commonly and forgo the passion, lust and sex because we have stressful lives or body confidence issues? Ask yourself if you are someone who jumps on your partner when he/she comes in from work, or are you someone who waits for your partner to initiate sex? Do you view it as more of a chore or as something that gives you pleasure? If your answer was 'chore' then I say you take back your sex life this Valentine's Day!

Why not get in touch with your Lupercalia sisters and make Valentine's Day something different - get in touch with your inner she-wolf and go all out. Don't do it for your partner, do it for yourself! So, ladies, this year will you wait around for your dream gift - or - will you go and treat yourself to something a bit more in keeping with Lupercalia?

If you're not all that comfortable being 'sexy' or putting yourself out there then why not start with some lingerie, find a piece that will emphasise your best bits and make you feel comfortable and more importantly - confident!

Maybe you dislike your love handles, the resolve would be to wear a basque and really show off your chest or legs. If you're someone who dislikes their small chest but you have an amazing stomach, why not opt for the more elaborate bra's that give the impression of S&M style bondage, these details will detract the eye away from a minimal cup and place an emphasis on your stomach if you wear a similar bondage styled suspender belt and stockings.

So, on the same note, I will be getting in touch with my inner she-wolf with this Delicate Beauty Bustier by 3Wishes.com I chose this basque because it holds in my mum-tum, pushes up my mum chest which is small in comparison to many other ladies and the colours are still feminine but not 'too' cutesy. Wearing this I feel womanly. As someone who is 5ft 2, I generally don't feel all that womanly or sexy but, this bustier really makes a difference and as weird as it sounds I feel tall, lean and sexy.

Putting this on is easy, I can simply hook it up myself, twist it round and then arrange my bits and bobs but, you can always ask your lucky man or woman to hook you up at the back to make it easier. This does come with the attachable stocking holders but you need to buy the thongs separately. Failing that this bustier will go with most pastel coloured thongs.

This basque cost $59.95 which is around £48 and, as far as splurging goes it's not even close but as you can see it definitely looks and feels far more expensive and isn't all that different to something you could find over on the Coco-de-mer website at three times the cost!

My handsome manny has seen this basque but not on, he will have to wait until Valentine's Day for that. I'm sure he will update you on the outcome of the basque after the 14th.
