Have You Got The X Factor?

Think you’ve got what it takes to make it in the pop world?

There are thousands of people who try to find fame and fortune with their singing skills so, unfortunately, this is a very cut-throat business to jump into. However, if you are extremely dedicated, you might be very surprised to see just how you go. And, in a couple of year’s time, you could be touring the country and appearing on cool celebrity chat shows!

Ready to try and bag your first recording contract? Here are some steps that can help you get there!

Practice Constantly

You need to make sure you are at the top of your game before you try to launch a singing career. And that means you need to practice, practice, practice. And when you think you are done with all your practicing, make sure you do some more! This is the only way you will be able to improve your singing skills and really impress potential agents and record producers! There are loads of talented singers out there, and you need to be able to beat them with your vocals. So, what are you waiting for? Time to start singing!

Consider Talent Shows

You will have no doubt heard a lot about TV reality shows such as American Idol and America’s Got Talent. These kinds of shows have introduced some awesome pop stars to the world, like Kelly Clarkson and Trent Harmon, and propelled them to the big time. So, if you think that you have what it takes to win over all the other competitors, it is very worth considering. Sure, you will have to face some nasty judges like Simon Cowell, but I’m sure you can easily handle them!

Think About Self-Releasing

If you have the money, you might want to think about self-releasing your own record. This doesn’t have to be a full album; some people decide to just release an EP to try and get their name out there and attract the attention of agents. It’s not hard to record yourself, and there are plenty of companies out there who can help you, including Nationwide Disc. You can then set up an online store to try and sell these records. Alternatively, send them to agents, which leads us nicely onto my final point.

Send Off Tapes

Once you have recorded your own EP or record, you should consider sending some off to record producers, recording companies, and agents. Most music professionals listen to everything that they are sent as they are always on the lookout for the next big thing. Once you send your CDs off, you will have to wait quite a while for any positive news. Unfortunately, if the records don’t impress, you probably won’t hear back from anyone at all. But don’t feel disheartened; rejection is a big part of the music industry! Lots of big pop stars have been rejected before they found fame.

Good luck with your career in the pop world! Don’t forget us when you are big and famous!

Little Modern Home Details I Love

If you’re an avid reader of my blog, you will be aware that on occasion I do like to talk about the home. I also like to mention how I have improved mine over the years. One of the ways I have changed my home is through the use of modern designs and upgraded tech. While there have been larger changes to my house, I have also altered little details. And it’s these insignificant little changes that I probably wouldn’t be able to live without anymore. Perhaps you feel the same.

Soft Sliding Drawers

You might also know them as soft closing drawers. It’s one of the best features of the modern home. The draw essentially closes itself, and it’s not done through the use of electronics. Instead, it’s all about how the drawer has been designed. With soft close drawer runners, it’s easy to set up a drawer that automatically slides shut once it reaches a certain point. It also barely makes any noise when it closes, making it perfect for a modern home design. You can purchase furniture with these soft sliding doors or set them up yourself with the right runners put in place.

Smart Tech

It’s hard to count everything in your home that could now be considered smart. There’s the smart kettle that can be boiled using your phone from anywhere in the house or even out of it. There’s the smart thermostat that can, if you have the right one, adjust the temperature the home to match personal preferences. There’s also the smart fridge that will, if you’re lucky, alert you when you’re running low on supplies it knows you want in. You see smart tech is absolutely everywhere and it certainly makes the home feel far more futuristic. Whether you think this is a good or bad thing probably depends on how weary you are of new tech.

Fold Away Furniture

Having a small home used to be a pain and a nightmare. If you had guests over, there was no way to shake the impression that your home was cluttered and cramp. But, now there are great modern space saving designs that you can take advantage of. For instance, you can purchase a table that slides in between spaces in a shelf unit when it’s not in use. The chairs do the same, and this means when you’re not using the table, the room can be completely clean and clear. At the very least this makes a room a lot easier to clean thoroughly.

Laminate Flooring

Not as expensive as hardwood flooring but nowhere near as impractical as carpet, laminate flooring is in this year. With laminate floors, you’ll find the home is easier to maintain and clean. You can get laminate flooring installed in your home by talking to a professional. To complete a whole house, it may only cost a few thousand. But you probably want to focus on rooms such as the kitchen, bathrooms and possible the living room. Do this, and you can make your property look stylish and modern.

Do you love these modern home details as much as me?

How Does Your Garden Grow? Maintaining a Healthy Garden

You don’t have to be a keen horticulturist to keep your garden maintained. A few small measures could prevent your backyard from becoming a jungle – or drying out completely. Here are few tips to help your garden flourish.

Deter pests and weeds

Pests and weeds are the bane of any garden. Whilst you can use chemical insecticides and weed-killers these can often have a negative effect on other wildlife, killing off bees and warding off birds. Weeds are best dug out but you can use other tricks such as boiling water and vinegar for killing them. To get rid of pests such as slugs and snails, use natural solutions such as salt-spray and chili powder.

Fertilise plants

The solution to overgrown plants is cutting back. Plants that are refusing to grow are a little harder to deal with. Fertiliser may be your best option. As with pesticides and weed-killers, you should avoid chemicals where possible. There are all kinds of DIY fertilisers to experiment with from Epsom salts to compost tea. You can also get many pre-mixed organic formulas online.

Keep soil moist

When summer comes, don’t just water your plants, water the soil. This will keep your plant’s roots healthy. For gardens in hotter climates, a sprinkler is recommended to save you watering the lawn manually.

Soil can become too wet, becoming waterlogged and causing plants to wilt and leaves to go yellow. This is common with clay soil in the winter. There’s not much you can do to combat this other than transferring plants to a raised bed or to pots.  Growing your plants in a greenhouse is another option.

Maintain your pond

Ponds can be a beautiful garden feature, but do require a lot of maintenance. Water needs to be regularly filtered either by fitting a waterfall or a filter system. Keeping good air quality in the pond is also important for any fish and there is a huge range of pond air pumps available.

Algae and blanket weed should be taken out to stop other plants such as lilies from being killed off. Some algae is healthy however, especially in the winter when it provides food for fish.

In winter, try to use a natural de-icing method to allow a hole in the ice for toxins to escape the water. Do not break ice as this can cause shockwaves to travel through the water that are capable of killing your fish.

Use creative lighting solutions

Plants need light to survive. If your garden is located in the shade you may need to come up with creative methods to keep plants happy. If any obstacles can’t be removed, you may be able to place mirrors around the garden to re-direct light. This can’t substitute direct light, but could help plants get a few more rays than they usually would. Raised beds meanwhile may be an option for getting more light to plants.

Money Mistakes You've Definitely Already Made

We all make mistakes handling money, and I’ll give you an example. Did you know that it’s quite common for a pound or two to slip out your account every now and then and never be put back? Probably not but it does happen, and it’s usually due to a glitch during a transaction. If this is even happening once every year of your life, you could be losing seventy pounds. That’s quite a lot of money when you think about it. It’s also fair to say that if you’re not watching your bank balance, a lot more can go missing without you realising due to fraudulent activity. Here are are few other mistakes you might have already made.

Buying Stocks

Buying stocks might not seem like the wrong move at all. But unless you know exactly what you’re doing it definitely is. Buying stocks and shares is really no better than gambling when you’re oblivious about what you’re buying into. And, like gambling, most people buying stocks lose a lot more money than they gain.

Risky Online Transactions

People have become quite laidback about money transactions, particularly online. You might even have one-click purchases on some sites that you frequently use online. This essentially means if anyone gets your tech they could buy anything they wanted from these sites. You might also have borrowed money from a shady lender online. It’s always worth checking to see if a site is reputable before completing any type of monetary transaction. The infographic below explains this in more detail.
