New Beginnings | 20 Resolution Ideas

It's the New Year!

Normally I'd have a whole list of resolutions - before - New Year and I do have some but I haven't placed as much emphasis on them because I wanted to start the year with some resolutions to help give me something to look forward to. I always find having an end goal keeps me productive and keeps me moving forward and more so, not procrastinating.

So if you're like me, and couldn't think of anything solid then here is a list of some you may want to consider. Make one or make one hundred, I don't think it really matters how many you choose as long as you have something to look forward to in this brand new year.

💜  Learn a language. Even if you're only learning a few words here and there, its a confidence booster knowing that you've learnt something. You're never too old or young also to learn and there are many ways you can do so for free. I typically use Duolingo for my Magyar (Hungarian) which you can get online or via an app, or I use websites for Tagalog (Filipino).

💜  Wear better underwear. OK, so this has a double benefit. If you're doing this for you, wearing better underwear and lingerie will help to boost your confidence, morale and help support you and your body in the right way. The additional confidence will help your relationship (if you're in one). So never choose to do this for your partner, always choose to do this for you, and you only.

💜  Wear better footwear. My dad always taught me to spend more on your footwear because you cannot buy new feet, he was absolutely right. So why not spend more on your footwear and make cuts elsewhere in your spending?

💜  Travel. Do you stick to your town or city mostly? Maybe you want to get out there and travel more but the fear of change stops you? Why not try picking some other cities and travel to those first off before venturing further afield. Or, why not make travel your big indulgence for 2018?

💜  Change one habit. Smoking, drinking too much, indulge in chocolate too much, maybe you don't try to put yourself out there, maybe you let people walk all over you or maybe you don't treat yourself enough - regardless of how small or big the habit is, work on changing it.

💜  Say 'no' more. Most people aren't comfortable saying no to people. Get used to saying it without guilt.

💜  Be selfish. When I say selfish I mean to do something for you and only you regardless of what others think.

💜  Put yourself out there and make new friends. Try joining a club, going to classes, going to more meetings at work or even just going to local events. Whatever way you choose to put yourself out there just go for it and don't let anxiety and fear stop you. As soon as you feel your body going 'no' push yourself to say yes.

💜  Declutter. Again you can choose something small like a cupboard you've been ignoring for the last year or, you can work on your whole life.

💜  Learn something new. Crafts, skills, languages, history, education or even just learn about someone else. Learning is a great skill to have and when you learn you help yourself to develop and grow as a person.

💜  Apologise. Sometimes it's OK, to be the better person and regardless if you think you should be the one apologising, consider being the better person and doing so. Why? well, it gives you closure in certain situations and if you find the person you're apologising too doesn't soften or meet you halfway, you know you need to move on with your life and you can do so knowing you tried to resolve it. Sometimes it's better to cut ties but in a good way.

💜  Give back. Do you ever find you could help someone but choose not to because you dislike them or you just can't be bothered? Why not try giving back, helping others more regardless of the type of person they are? Sometimes a kind act can be the change others need. The benefits of helping others and the benefits of being helped sometimes are hugely rewarding.

💜  Say yes more. Yes really! when you find yourself going to say no, say yes instead. A change in routine and habit is good for us.

💜  Do something that scares you. See above. If there's something that scares you ''try'' to overcome it. Why not make it a charity event that way you are overcoming fear while helping others. Plus the support can usually help people achieve their goals.

💜  Do more. Lists are a great way to get yourself organised and to help you do more. Usually, when procrastination hits me it is usually because I've forgotten what needs to be done. If I had a list I'd not be wasting time. Use your ''free'' time to do more but don't forget to book in time for yourself to relax.

💜  Challenge yourself. Is there something you admire in others but think, there's no way I can do/achieve that? Well, don't sell yourself short - go for it. You have nothing to lose.

💜  Drink more water. This is a no-brainer. We rarely drink enough water (not juice). Challenge yourself to drink more each day. There are even apps you can get to help you keep count of your water intake and apps that give you reminders to drink.

💜  Save more. Save every £2 coin you get in your change or even every £5. Whatever you choose, just make sure to save it.

💜  Learn to not hate Mondays - Hate Mondays? Find they ruin your week? Why not learn to love Mondays instead? Get up earlier, have a better breakfast, go to the gym before work, or why not ask for different tasks at work each Monday to change up what could be a boring routine.

💜  Delete social media - Hear me out, I mean declutter and delete accounts you're not using or haven't used in a long time. Why keep it around if it's not being used? For the old memories? Sometimes those old memories only keep us from moving forward...

Whatever you choose to do, I hope you make it a good one. Wishing you all the best for the year and beyond.
