Doing Melbourne in a Day!

Have you ever heard of something as preposterous as doing Melbourne in a day? For most people, Melbourne is somewhere you move to, and experience for the rest of your life.

But it is possible for you to do Melbourne in a day if you don’t have a lot of time. Plenty of people love to road trip across the country and if you are fortunate enough to even visit Melbourne once, you’re going to find plenty of things to do.

Melbourne is famous for a number of things, and it isn't quite the same as the other brother Capitals throughout Australia. Melbourne is noted for its artistic streak, the gourmet dining culture, and some of the best bars Melbourne has to offer are right here in the CBD.

It’s a cultural hotbed, and some of the most impressive architectural features are found in the centre of Melbourne. As a first-time visitor, you might not have a lot of time here so here are the things that you should do if you are going to Melbourne in a day.

Take the tram.

No matter where you plan to go in Melbourne, the free City Circle Tram system is one of the best features of any of the cities in Australia. You can reach the entirety of the Melbourne CBD with the tram, and you’ll get to all of the essential shops you need and you don’t have to pay for it at all! You’ll save on the cost and hassle of having to navigate a complicated train or bus network, and the tram stops run every 12 minutes.

Had to Flinders Street.

Flinders Street station is not just a transportation hub. The characteristic Dome and the clocks on the tower make this Edwardian style building stand out from the city. The station itself on the inside is well worth a look, as it’s just as intricate on the inside as the outside. There are stained glass features and plenty of spots inside to grab a nice coffee – we know Australia is great for coffee – you’ll always find something to see here.

Speaking of coffee!

You cannot go to Melbourne even just for a day without expert experience in coffee. They often say that the Yarra River runs brown, and it’s because coffee is the lifeblood of the city. Around the banks of the Yarra River, you always find a cup of hot stuff, Is the best place to go? It’s the Cup of Truth. It’s a hidden gem on the corner of Flinders Street subway, so if you want a flat white you won’t regret it.

Head up to the sky.

Once you’ve been on the tram, you’ve seen the shops, and you grab your coffee, head up to the footbridge across the Yarra River to the Southbank area. This is where you will see the Eureka Tower. It’s the highest point in the city and it’s an excellent place to orient yourself and get your bearings on the whole layout of the city. It’s actually the tallest viewing platform in the southern hemisphere, so if you fancy feeding like a bird, off you go.
